AARP is preparing income tax returns three days a week in Macon at no cost.
Mickey Pope, who is volunteering to help with the returns, said the service mainly is for low- and middle-income residents.
Tax preparers are available at the Buck Melton Community Center, 150 Sessions Drive, in Macon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. through April 15, the deadline to file 2014 taxes.
People should arrive with their photo ID and the Social Security cards for themselves and any dependents. Tax preparers also ask that people also have last year’s return and proof of healthcare coverage for themselves and their dependents. If coverage was obtained through the marketplace, they also should show up with Form 1095-A, Pope said in a news release.
