A fifth person has been charged with murder in connection with the deadly shootout earlier this month at Wings Cafe in Macon.
Kenyata Norreece Lester, 29, turned himself in to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office about 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to a sheriff’s office release.
Lester is charged with two counts of murder, one count of participating in criminal street gang and six counts of aggravated assault. Others already charged with murder in the case are Markques Patterson, Jaquez Terrance Foster, Vertuice Wall and Eric Watkins Jr.
Three people died in the shooting that happened Dec. 12 at the nightclub. George Henley and Corey Hollingshed died the night of the shooting, and Derrick Jackson died Dec. 18.
Henley, known as DJ Fresh, was near the front door of the club on Bloomfield Drive when bullets started flying. His girlfriend, Nastajah Taylor, was hit four times but survived. Sheriff David Davis has referred to both as innocent bystanders.
Lt. Randy Gonzalez, public information officer for the sheriff’s office, said the suspects are currently charged with only two counts of murder because that was what was on the original warrants. It will be up to the district attorney, he said, to decide whether to upgrade the charges for Jackson’s death.
Gonzalez said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible, but he said with Lester’s arrest, all of those for which warrants have been issued are in custody.
Surveillance video from the club shows fighting that led to the shooting, and investigators deduced that Watkins “did intentionally encourage, advise and aid” Lester and Patterson to commit an aggravated assault at the club, according to a warrant.
Patterson was wounded in the shooting, along with Foster and Jackson.
The warrant states that Watkins is associated with the gang Blacc Team, and the shooting was against Crip gang members.
A Facebook page for an Eric Watkins Jr. shows a few beach pictures from the fall and an “Original Blacc Team 8326” logo of a black clenched fist that was posted as his profile picture in August.
Earlier photos are believed to be of Watkins partying with friends.
