When Toni Slade called Kimberly Ryan Mitcham to share with her about the generosity of the Reindeer Gang, Mitcham’s first words were, “I’m speechless.”
But Slade, the co-founder of the nonprofit Project Giving in Warner Robins, knew Mitcham was still on the line, even though she wasn’t saying anything. She could hear her crying.
Mitcham, a 35-year-old registered nurse and the mother of four children, has had 41 surgeries for adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare form of cancer.
With years of medical expenses, she and her husband, Shaun, have had difficulty making ends meet.
Slade said as of Friday, more than $4,000 had been raised for the Mitcham family.
“In the seven years Project Giving has been working with the Reindeer Gang, we have never had such an overwhelming response as we have had with this family,” Slade said.
Slade said Mitcham told her she was “overwhelmed and grateful” for the love people have shown her family.
