Two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after they were hit by a car while riding on a bicycle.
James Mitchell witnessed the accident just before 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Walnut Street and Forest Avenue.
He saw his friend, Donald Perkins, believed to be in his 60s, standing up peddling down Walnut Street with a woman on the bicycle seat.
As they headed south, a sedan also headed toward town was beginning to turn left onto Forest Avenue.
Never miss a local story.
“I was really trying to holler and tell him to stop, but it was too late to stop, really,” Mitchell said. “They kept going straight through. He said he didn’t see the car.”
The couple toppled off the bicycle, Perkins hit his head and was bleeding from his eye and lip, Mitchell said.
The woman, whom Mitchell did not know, fell on top of Perkins and twisted her foot, he said.
“(The driver) didn’t really hit them hard. He wasn’t going very fast,” Mitchell said.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
