Late Capricorn Records co-founder Frank Fenter will be inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame this fall, his stepson said Friday.
Rob Fenter said he was contacted by Hall of Fame officials who informed him that Frank Fenter would be inducted in the posthumous category.
“I’m ecstatic and overjoyed,” Rob Fenter said. “It’s fantastic news. I’m really delighted. It was certainly a long time coming.”
Fenter, a South Africa native, was working with Atlantic Records when he partnered with the late Phil Walden to create the Capricorn label in 1969. Thanks to early success from The Allman Brothers Band, the label grew quickly as Southern rock soared in popularity.
Officials with the selection committee said it likely would be next week before the official list is released.
