Rico Williams took a right turn out of the Hits Sports Bar and Grill parking lot onto Bloomfield Drive.
With his brother Deon in the passenger seat, he was headed to their home on Masseyville Road in east Macon after a night of dancing, drinking and birthday celebration.
He had just turned 24.
Rico made another right turn onto Eisenhower Parkway. It was about 5 a.m.
The brothers didn’t make it half a mile before gunfire rang out at a red light.
Both were shot.
The car crashed.
Rico didn’t survive to see the sunrise.
Four years later, Deon still relives Dec. 28, 2008, the day his brother was killed.
The memories pop into his mind at unexpected times and in his dreams.
“It’s like it’s happening all over again,” he said.
Macon police know members of a street gang are responsible for theshooting, but officers don’t know who pulled the trigger or why.
Sgt. Cedric Penson refuses to hand the file over to a cold case detective.
He still has hope that he’ll be able to call Williams’ family one dayand tell them he’s made an arrest.
“I’m just one or two pieces away from putting all the pieces together,” he said.
