Bibb County commissioners split evenly on whether to make the chairman’s position a full-time, $100,000-a-year position.
Commissioner Elmo Richardson made the motion to make the chairman’s job full-time and was seconded by Commissioner Bert Bivins. But the effort was opposed by Commissioners Joe Allen and Lonzy Edwards. The current chairman, Commissioner Sam Hart, abstained from the vote. It failed after a 2-2 tie.
The motion was to have become effective in January 2013, making it affect the next chairman. Hart has said he plans to run for re-election but abstained from most discussions of the pay increase.
