Georgians may now apply for burn permits as the Georgia Environmental Protection Division has lifted the annual summer burn ban that expired Thursday.
Macon-Bibb Fire Department training chief Larry Smallwood said people may call for permits at the fire prevention office at 751-2700 weekdays between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. or call 751-7300 on Saturdays. Outdoor burning is prohibited after dark and on Sundays.
Residents may only burn yard waste and branches less than four inches in diameter. They must have proper clearance, a water hose and continuously attend to the fire, Smallwood said.
The Georgia Forestry Commission also can issue permits for larger controlled burns, he said.
