About 2,300 Jones County customers of Tri-County EMC are scheduled to lose power early Friday.
The outage will begin just after midnight Thursday and end by 4 a.m. Friday, said Lindsay Graham, the power cooperative’s spokeswoman.
The outage is planned for that time so it won’t be particularly disruptive.
Residents should save all the open files in their computer, and people seeking midnight snacks should try to keep the refrigerator and freezer shut as much as possible.
The outage will allow workers to remove a tree that fell across a power transmission line serving the Clinton/Gray substation.

There is no need to call and report the outage.
