A Cordele man was mistaken for game and shot while hunting with a friend Tuesday evening in Wilcox County.
Jimmy Hudson Jr. of Crisp County was wounded in the face, neck and chest with a 12-gauge shotgun at about 6:20 p.m. off Ga. 215, said Adam Newman, chief deputy for the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office.
Hudson was hunting about four miles south of Rochelle with Mark Boutwell of Wilcox County when the two men got separated and Boutwell mistakenly fired at his friend, Newman said.
Boutwell called 911, and about 30 minutes later, Hudson was airlifted by medical helicopter from the scene to Phoebe Putnam Memorial Hospital in Albany. Hudson was in critical but stable condition and was expected to survive, said Newman, “He was very lucky,” Newman said.
