Students from Mercer University and Georgia Southwestern University won prizes Friday at the 19th annual Junque Yard Art Competition, sponsored by Macon Iron and the Middle Georgia Arts Association.
In the group category, “Plesiosaurus Loch Ness Monster” won first, created by Georgia Southwestern students Hasani Jones, Quinton Lonon, Hannah Mercer, Pamela Hood and Dana Hudson. The same piece also won the “Best Use of Materials” category.
“Dodo,” by Josh Nicholson, Jennifer Novak, Rebecca Shields, Carlos Moore and Leslie Reddick of Georgia Southwestern won second, and “Spike,” by Mercer students Austin Deray and Mary Therrell took third.
In the individual category, Ashley Bell of Georgia Southwestern took first for “Nature vs. Nurture,” “Taradactyl” by Tara Joyner of Georgia Southwestern was second, and “Helicopryon” by Aaisha Merali of Mercer was third.
John Lin of Georgia Southwestern won “Most Humerous” for “Armored Horseshoe Crab.”
The exhibits are on display at the Middle Georgia Arts Association, located at 2330 Ingleside Ave., through April 6.
