Two motorcycles collided Sunday afternoon in Macon County, killing 26-year-old Jeremy Israel of Macon.
Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Elbert Slappy said Israel was traveling north on Ga. 127 with several other bikers when Michael Jones, 19, of Byron, pulled off to the side of the road near Ga. 128.
Jones made a U-turn and Israel clipped Jones’ back tire and was ejected from his motorcycle about 4:15 p.m. Israel, of an Ingleside Avenue apartment, died shortly after the accident, Slappy said.
“As tragic as it seems, accidents do happen, and I think that’s exactly what happened,” Slappy said. “This is a known area for drag racing bikes, but none of that was happening.”
Jones was not injured in the accident but is expected to be charged with making an improper turn and driving with an expired motorcycle license, Slappy said.
More charges could be filed pending toxicology test results, which is standard procedure in fatal accidents.
