The Macon Water Authority cleaned up several spills in Bibb County over the weekend that were caused by heavy rainfall last Friday.
The MWA cleaned up a spill last Friday at the dead end of Lennox Drive, caused by hydraulic issues from the heavy rain. The MWA is still calculating the amount of discharge into Sabbath Creek. Also last Friday, the MWA cleaned up about 28,800 gallons at Paul Walsh Drive that spilled into a ditch feeding Rocky Creek.
The MWA cleaned up a major spill Saturday and Sunday at the easement behind Allen Creek, in which 76,500 gallons were discharged into a ditch feeding Tobesofkee Creek. That spill also was due to hydraulic issues from last Friday’s rainfall.
The biggest spill of 610,500 gallons took place at the Corbin lift station to the Riverside lift station easement, with the volume being discharged into the Ocmulgee River. The MWA began cleaning up the spill last Friday and finished Tuesday. All of the areas affected by the spills were cleaned and disinfected with lime.
