Based on the recommendation of Macon Chief Administrative Officer Thomas Thomas, Mayor Robert Reichert told the City Council’s Public Properties Committee that the city wants to keep Bowden Golf Course.
He said officials are exploring ways to run the public golf course more efficiently, including finding outside management. The city can sell the golf course, but the city charter prohibits another company from making money directly from its operation while under city ownership.
“Things are improving,” Thomas said. “Can’t guarantee it’ll operate in the black, but things are improving.”
Reichert suggested the city find a way to get out of “the pro shop business.” The measure was tabled indefinitely while options are examined.
