An alcohol waiver for a downtown Macon New Year’s Eve party moved forward easily Monday, passing the City Council’s Public Safety Committee unanimously.
The measure would essentially shift the exemption to the city’s open container ordinance forward one day, allowing the street party patrons to drink outside. That exemption has been in place for some time on the first Friday of every month downtown. But New Years Eve falls on Thursday, Dec. 31, and NewTown Macon and its partners plan to have the monthly First Friday bash that night instead.
The change still must pass the full council, which is scheduled to take the issue up next Tuesday, during its regular meeting at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
