Maggie Webb is on the hunt for bears.
For the past seven years, Webb has collected stuffed teddy bears to give out to children at the annual Christmas party for the homeless at Christ Church. She’s seeking donations of bears again to give away at this year’s party, scheduled for Dec. 15.
Webb, who’s now a senior at Woodfield Academy, began the initiative in 2003 as a ministry and a community service project so that children who attend the party would be sure to have a present.
“With the economy down, they won’t get much, if anything,” she said.
Never miss a local story.
This year could be her final year for the teddy bear collection, since she is making plans to attend college next year.
Webb is hoping for donations of new and “previously loved” bears in good shape.
Those who could contribute are asked to drop off donations at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 753 College St., by Dec. 10. On the day of the party, donations may be dropped off before 4 p.m. at Christ Church, 582 Walnut St.
