A police officer fired a shot at a pit bull in the 500 block of Woolfolk Street on Monday, according to Macon police.
The officer was dispatched about 8:50 a.m. in reference to a “vicious pit bull,” according to a police report.
When officer Ikiya Celestine arrived, a woman said she couldn’t get out of her vehicle because the dog was trying to attack her, according to the report.
At some point, the dog ran toward the officer and the officer fired one shot at the dog, according to the report.Sgt. Zac Self said the shot didn’t strike the dog, which ran off.

Self said the police department’s Internal Affairs Division is investigating the incident.
The dog’s owner will be cited for an animal registration violation and failure to restrain, according to the report.It appeared as if the dog escaped out of a pen and got under a fence. A neighbor told officers she thought the dog’s owner was in jail, according to the report.
