All eight Macon radio stations belonging to Cumulus Media went off the air for about an hour and a half Friday night.
The problem was caused by electrical problems in the office building at 544 Mulberry St. where Cumulus’ studios are located.
Cumulus Market Manager John Rodriguez said the building’s main breaker tripped about 8:15 p.m., making all the stations’ signals go dead. After electricians worked on the problem, some stations were back up by 9:30 p.m. and all were back up by 10 p.m.
Rodriguez estimated that between 100,000 and 125,000 people listen to Cumulus stations on a Friday night. The lineup includes country station WDEN-FM 99.1, light rock station WPEZ-FM 93.7 and urban station WLZN-FM 92.3.
Rodriguez said Cumulus had experienced similar electrical problems earlier in the week, with two stations going off the air briefly Wednesday morning and three stations going off the air briefly Friday morning.
