Gov. Sonny Perdue honored tourism professionals from across the state Wednesday at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism at Lake Lanier Islands Resort.
Among the award winners from the Middle Georgia area was the Macon-Bibb County Convention & Visitors Bureau. The CVB received the Al Burris Award for Creative Expression, for creative use of a USB guitar-shaped flash drive to attract meetings and media to Macon.
The Antebellum Trail, which runs along a line that includes the cities of Athens, Watkinsville, Madison, Eatonton, Milledgeville, Macon and Gray/Old Clinton, earned the Paul Brown Award for Marketing Initiatives.
State Rep. Larry O’Neal, R-Warner Robins, received the Legislative Award for his support of the tourism industry. O’Neal is chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee. During his tenure, several tax bills were introduced that support state tourism.
