A Macon police officer is recovering after breaking both legs in an Aug. 3 traffic crash on Mercer University Drive, according to the police.
Officer Danny Roberson was on duty, but was not responding to an emergency as he drove westbound on Mercer University Drive approaching Grosso Avenue at about 10:45 p.m., said officer Austin Riley.
An eastbound Dodge Grand Caravan driven by 51-year-old Michael Antonio Snipes turned left toward Grosso Avenue and collided with the patrol car, according to an accident report.
Riley said police are still calculating how fast the two vehicles were traveling at the time of the crash, and blood samples from both drivers have been sent off to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for analysis.

Roberson, 24, broke his legs and suffered a collapsed lung. Snipes broke his hip, Riley said.
