A Macon police officer was listed in stable condition at The Medical Center of Central Georgia following a traffic wreck on Mercer University Drive on Monday night, according to the police.
Officer Danny Roberson, 24, was driving westbound on Mercer University Drive approaching Grosso Avenue at about 10:45 p.m. when an eastbound Dodge Grand Caravan driven by 51-year-old Michael Antonio Snipes turned left toward Grosso Avenue, according to an accident report.
Roberson’s patrol vehicle was struck on the driver’s door, according to the police.
Roberson told officers investigating the crash that he saw the other vehicle turn in front of him and he applied heavy pressure to the brakes and turned the steering wheel hard to the right. He said he felt the car slide and he “blacked out,” according to the report.

Snipes, of Macon, told police he started to turn left onto Grosso Avenue, but noticed the police car come over a hill on Mercer University Drive “kind of fast,” according to the report.
Snipes said he accelerated in an attempt to avoid the police car, but doesn’t remember anything else, according to the report.
Snipes and his passenger were injured and were listed in stable condition at a local hospital, said Sgt. Melanie Hofmann.
The posted speed limit in the area of the crash is 40 mph, according to the report.
