About three dozen trucks carrying heavy equipment traveled in a convoy through the midstate Friday.
A group of about 55 volunteers primarily from the Statesboro area will be volunteering off Ga. 16 in Jasper County this weekend.
Neighborhoods in that community were hard-hit by the Feb. 18 tornado that tore through the county.
“It’s just a group of people who have equipment and are willing to go help people,” said Ellis Wood, whose son organized the group. “We have doctors and lawyers and construction workers.”
Never miss a local story.
The group will focus on removing numerous trees that toppled in the storm.
The core of the group has been helping with disaster relief since 1989, Wood said.
