Progressive Christian Academy, a private school in Macon opened since 1985, is facing foreclosure due to the economy.
Principal Betty Tolbert said Friday the private school needs at least $40,000 by the end of the month to pay the mortgage company or faces shutting down. The school is located on Madison Street in Macon’s historic Pleasant Hill neighborhood.“It’s a scary time for us,” she said. “We’re raising funds now to continue.”
The private school operates on student tuition and endowments, but enrollment has dropped by half this year providing less funding. The school now has about 220 students.
Some parents have been laid off or their hours cut and are unable to pay tuition, she said.
