Social media savvy folks interested in legal matters can now follow Georgia’s highest court on Twitter.
The Supreme Court of Georgia launched its Twitter account Sunday to alert the state that the court was closing Monday and Tuesday due to Tropical Storm Irma.
The court will tweet newly published opinions, summaries, news releases and other information about upcoming cases, according to a news release.
Chief Justice P. Harris Hines admits he’s not an aficionado.
Never miss a local story.
“We are officially entering the world of social media, and while I can’t claim I always understand it, I think it is vital that the Court connect with the public,” Hines stated in the release.
He won’t have to know much about Twitter since the account will be handled by the public information office.

“People often look to Twitter to keep up with the latest breaking news, and this is a step toward making the state’s highest court more accessible and transparent,” Hines said.
