Southbound roads, I-75 clogged as Tropical Storm Irma evacuees return home
As hundreds of thousands of evacuees return home after Tropical Storm Irma, major roads and highways leading to south Georgia and Florida are clogged for miles.
Most of the 100-mile stretch of Interstate 75 southbound between Fort Valley and Atlanta was crawling Tuesday night at speeds of 30-40 mph, according to average speeds posted on the Georgia Department of Transportation’s website.
Traffic on U.S. 441 in Milledgeville also moved slowly from Madison to Milledgeville and further south.
@MyFDOT I think these folks are coming. This is US 441 traffic btw @CityofMadisonGA & @CityofMilly. Crazy ⬆️ volume. #TropicalStormIrma pic.twitter.com/VupnpJNXMO
