Highway fatality investigation blocks lane on Interstate 75
A left lane is closed on Interstate 75 North in Houston County due to a fatality investigation.
The Georgia Department of Transportation initially reported two left lanes were blocked and would be closed until about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A second alert stated that the investigation is now contained to the left lane between mile post 133 and 135.5 and should conclude by 1 p.m.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating a fatal three-vehicle accident Thursday that killed Charles Lewis Posey, 69, of Cordele.
Posey was traveling in a Chevrolet Tahoe in the center lane when a Chevrolet Cobalt reportedly merged into his lane after the sedan entered the highway at the on-ramp at exit 135.
The Tahoe was hit and struck a Chevrolet Silverado pulling another pickup on a trailer in the left lane.
The Tahoe flipped, killing Posey.
Only one lane of the interstate will be open until the conclusion of Tuesday’s investigation.
