Fatal crash blocks multiple lanes of I-75 near Perry; alternate routes suggested

A major rollover accident is blocking all but the right shoulder of Interstate 75 North near Perry.

Houston County Coroner Danny Galpin pronounced one person dead at the scene, but the family has not yet been notified.

“There were cars piled up everywhere,” Galpin said of the multi-vehicle accident that was reported at about 10:40 a.m.

The Georgia Department of Transportation’s Navigator website indicates the highway could be blocked until about 3 p.m.

Motorists are urged to avoid traveling that stretch of interstate until the accident can be cleared.

Lt. Chris Sutcliff, of the Perry Police Department, said the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash, which happened just past exit 135 in Houston County.

Officers are trying to reroute drivers off the highway at exit 135.
