Kumho Tire, which is building its first North American manufacturing plant in Macon, is well into construction of the 1-million-square-foot manufacturing facility in the Sofkee Industrial Park.
The Korean-based tire company began construction on its $413 million facility in August 2014. It plans to hire about 450 people and begin production in early 2016.
Despite some recent posts on social media, the plant has not started hiring production workers.
The company will continue “our hiring of technical, maintenance and specialty personnel for the next several months,” Director of Human Resources James Frentheway said in an email. “Later this summer we will hold hiring and assessment events which will be coordinated and announced from the (Georgia) Department of Labor.”
