The Bibb County Medical Society has named the recipients of its 2014 awards.
The Physician of the Year Award went to Frank B. Kelly, orthopedic surgeon. Kelly graduated from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Tennessee at Memphis and the Campbell Foundation.
He began practicing in Macon in 1978 and is board certified in orthopedic surgery. He served as chief of staff at the Middle Georgia Hospital and chief of the orthopedic staff at the Medical Center, Navicent Health.
The Citizen of the Year Award was presented to Sister Elizabeth Greim. Greim was a driving force in establishing Daybreak, a day center for the homeless in downtown Macon.
Through her leadership, Daybreak Clinic was added in 2013, a free clinic staffed through the Georgia College & State University nurse practitioner faculty and students.
Since she arrived in Macon in 2005, Greim has been involved with the Families Advancement Ministry, the food pantry at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church and the Middle Georgia Alliance to End Regional Trafficking.
Medical Center named SafeCare Hospital
For the second consecutive year, Medical Center, Navicent Health, has been selected for The SafeCare Group’s 100 SafeCare Hospitals list for excellence in patient safety.
The areas that were measured were: risk-adjusted in-hospital mortality rates, 30-day re-admissions, complication rates in medical and surgical care, in-hospital medical and surgical infections and patient satisfaction scores.
Only the 100 hospitals with the highest scores made the 100 SafeCare Hospitals list.
The Medical Center was named one of the Top 100 Hospitals in the Over 400 Beds category.
West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange and Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston were named in the 100-400 Beds category.
Dodge County Hospital in Eastman was named in the Under 100 Beds category.
Scott wins rookie award for Alfa
Alfa Insurance agent Will Scott of Macon was recently named the 2014 Rookie of the Year for Georgia during the company’s annual awards ceremony.
He also received the Distinguished Service Award, Bronze Level.
Scott has served as an Alfa agent since 2012.
L.H. Thomson recognizes employees
L.H. Thomson Co. Inc., located in the Macon Airport Industrial Park, recently held its annual Employee Recognition Ceremony. Employees were recognized for five, 10, 20 and 25 years of service.
Five-year award recipients were Christopher Burch and Joel Ivey; 10-year award recipients were Shawn Evans and Edward Manfrieda.
Ronald Dukes has been with Thomson for 20 years, starting as a machine operator in the lathe department. His current position is lathe department supervisor.
Clint Jordan has been with Thomson for 25 years, starting as an employee in the assembly and inspection area. He is currently the assembly department supervisor.
Spillers sworn in as GAO president
J. Don Spillers Jr. of Spillers Orthodontics in Warner Robins became president of the Georgia Association of Orthodontists during its 2015 annual meeting at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro.
Spillers is involved with several dental councils and organizations. He is a delegate to the Georgia Dental Association, past president of the Central District Dental Society, a participating provider for Smiles Change Lives and the founder of International City Study Club.
He also holds professional memberships with the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association and the Southern Association of Orthodontists.
Anytime Fitness named March Business of the Month
The Business Development Committee of the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce recognized Anytime Fitness of Perry as its Business of the Month for March.
This award makes the fitness center eligible for the Business of the Year Award. The manager is Bob Johnson, and Anytime Fitness is located at 1040 Macon Road.
Georgia Trend recognizes eight lawyers
Eight lawyers from Martin Snow LLP were recently recognized as 2014 Legal Elites by Georgia Trend.
This list was published in the annual Legal Elite section, which appeared in the December 2014 issue.
Those who were recognized were Blair K. Cleveland, business law; Stuart E. Walker, corporate law; John C. Daniel II, labor employment law; C. Brown Edwards Jr., taxes and estate; William H.
