Brenda Hicks, owner of Middle Georgia Family Rehab LLC, 100 Hamilton Pointe Drive, Byron and 5021 Mercer University Drive, 478-956-4916.
How long have you been in business?: Hicks’ background is in nursing, which she did for 21 years. During that time she also worked in the therapy field. Also, she became a certified biller and did medical billing and coding.
“I decided when I got out of nursing -- I had starting having grandbabies -- that I wanted to work from home. So I started opening rehab facilities for different people, and I did their billing from home. I would set up a clinic, hire all the therapists, do all the credentials for them and the billing. I did that for probably five or six years. After that I decided to open my business.”
She opened the Byron clinic in 2012 and the Macon office at the beginning of February.
What do you like best about your job?: “The most important thing I like best is I get to help take care of people and their needs and help them with their pain. We have had a lot of blessings here. ... We’ve had kids that could say words but weren’t able to make sentences. Now they are able to make sentences. We’ve had stroke patients come in on a cane, and they left walking without the pain.”
What is your specialty?: Occupational, physical and speech therapy.
What are your future plans?: Since she just opened the Macon office, her plan is to build up the new office.
“I want to make sure I can serve as many people as possible in that location. ... I was getting a lot of Macon referrals, but they didn’t have transportation. ... They couldn’t get (to the Byron office).”
