Three Macon-Bibb County firefighters and a tractor-trailer driver were taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia on Wednesday after the tractor-trailer truck rear-ended the fire truck on Interstate 16.
Assistant Fire Chief Cliff Rushin said the firefighters, David Mahone, 31, Marcus Lamb, 42, and Keith Carter, 33, were all conscious and alert. He said their injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening.
Antonio Jenkins, 54, from Savannah was driving the tractor-trailer. A representative from the Medical Center said Jenkins was awake, alert and in stable condition late Wednesday afternoon.
Gordy Wright, public information officer for Georgia State Patrol, said state troopers were working two traffic crashes in the area about 50 yards apart when the crash occurred.

Rushin said the firefighters, from the department’s Monroe Street station, had responded to the scene of one of the crashes on I-16 eastbound near Coliseum Drive.
They were in front of the truck and packing up their equipment when two tractor-trailers collided, with one striking the back of the fire truck at about 2:30 p.m.
The fire truck then struck the firefighters and pushed them into a guardrail, Rushin said.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, according to a news release from the Georgia State Patrol.
Traffic delays were reported on Interstate 16 eastbound between the Spring Street and Coliseum Drive exits early Wednesday afternoon, but the exits were open by late afternoon.
