Perry native Casey Hayward was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the 62nd pick of the NFL draft Friday night.
Hayward, who just wrapped up his career at Vanderbilt, becomes the third Perry product drafted in school history. Dontarrious Thomas was a second round pick in 2004, and Kiwaukee Thomas was taken in the fifth round in 2000.
Hayward earned second-team All-America honors from the Walter Camp Foundation, Rivals.com and Yahoo Sports after his senior season. He had seven interceptions as a senior, and he is tied for the career record at Vanderbilt with 15.
As a quarterback, Hayward led Perry to the state quarterfinals as a senior, and he earned all-state and All-Middle Georgia honors after the season.
