A young man believed to be from Bibb County was found shot to death outside an abandoned house in south Monroe County on Tuesday.
The victim, in his early 20s, was shot in the back and appears to be the victim of a shotgun blast, Monroe Coroner Joey Proctor said.
Monroe sheriff’s deputies “got a tip” about the body and have been investigating the slaying since about midday, the coroner said.
The body was lying near the front porch of a house in some woods just north of Zebulon Road, less than half a mile west of Estes Road. The house lies about four miles northwest of the Interstate 475 interchange at Zebulon.
Proctor said authorities are still trying to confirm the victim’s identity, but the coroner said he believed the victim was a Bibb County man who was last seen Friday.
“He was reported missing on Sunday,” Proctor said.
