A Macon City Council committee heard Monday that major upgrades to the 800 MHz emergency communication system will be done in one year instead of three, thanks to special purpose local option sales tax funds.
Public Safety Committee Chairman Virgil Watkins also mentioned at the end of the meeting that he will soon consider an ordinance to raise the age limit for the city curfew from 16 to 17.
Curfew changes were among the items mentioned, but not acted upon, after a spate of youth violence last fall. Councilman Frank Tompkins said he’d like to see more changes in the ordinance than just a applying the curfew to teens for one more year.
