Six Macon police officers will be issued written reprimands after being spotted playing football Thursday while waiting to serve an arrest warrant.
Police Chief Mike Burns, Deputy Chief Mike Carswell, Maj. Robert Grabowski and Internal Affairs Capt. Jimmy Barbee met with the officers Tuesday afternoon to discuss the incident and inform them of their punishment, according to a police news release.
Burns said that “although their actions were harmless,” the officers “displayed poor judgment.” In the future, officers are expected to use their work time wisely and to better protect residents, according to the release.
Burns also expressed his disappointment and reiterated his daily expectations for the city’s police force, according to the release.
Police have not released the names of the officers involved.
The officers, members of a specialized group, met behind a building in the Presidential Parkway area to help a detective serve a warrant and played football at about 4 p.m. while waiting for the detective to arrive.
