PERRY -- Construction is expected to start soon on one of the last major road projects left from Houston County’s 2006 special purpose local option sales tax.
In what it termed a “friendly” action, the Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday to condemn three tracts of land on the south end of Moody Road. The action removes one of the final hurdles toward getting construction of the widening project started, said Commission Chairman Tommy Stalnaker.
The condemnation action was done in agreement with the landowners to clear up issues related to liens on the property.
Negotiations are still under way on two remaining tracts, he said, but the contract for the project has been awarded, and work should begin within 30 days.
