The Georgia High School Association’s reclassification committee tentatively voted to move FPD from Region 7 to Region 4.
FPD will now be grouped in Region 4-A with Brookstone, Pacelli, Greenville, Central-Talbotton, Dooly County, Hawkinsville, Marion County and Schley County.
The Vikings were originally placed with Aquinas, Glascock County, Hancock Central, Lincoln County, Taliaferro County, Warren County, Challenge Charter, GMC, Twiggs County and Wilkinson County.
FPD’s administration argued travel would be shorter in Region 4-A, and trips to Columbus would be easier than trips to the Augusta-area schools like Aquinas, Lincoln County and Glascock County.

The committee voted 9-3 in favor of the appeal, FPD athletics director Greg Moore said.
GHSA executive director Ralph Swearngin said the tentative label was placed on the move because of the potential of some Class A schools leaving the GHSA. If no schools decide to leave, then FPD would be allowed to move. If a large number of schools leave, then Swearngin said the GHSA would likely revisit reclassification altogether.
Other Middle Georgia schools had appeals denied.
Dublin attempted to move from a region with some Augusta-area schools to a region composed of Middle Georgia schools.
Upson-Lee tried to move from a region of Henry County and Clayton County schools to a Middle Georgia region.
