WARNER ROBINS -- A small group of Robins airmen have been among the last U.S. troops in Iraq, and on Sunday they will be welcomed back home.
About 25 troops in the 5th Combat Communications Group at Robins were some of the last to leave Sather Air Base in Baghdad before it was turned over to the Iraqis. The unit, more commonly known as the 5th Mob, was part of establishing Sather when the war started and in recent months has been responsible for winding down operations. The unit is a part of the 689th Combat Communications Wing stationed at Robins.
Robert Talenti, spokesman for the 689th, said the Robins troops are currently in Germany and their arrival time here is still uncertain, but he expected it would be sometime Sunday. Fellow troops and family members will be there to welcome them home.
