WARNER ROBINS -- Funeral arrangements have been made for former Warner Robins Mayor Ralph Johnson, who died Tuesday after a lengthy illness, said his wife Mary Johnson.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday at McCullough Funeral Home, and the funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Warner Robins First United Methodist Church on North Davis Drive.
Friends of Ralph Johnson, 92, said he was one of the greats of Warner Robins. He served as mayor from 1985 to 1988.
“I served under five mayors, and I’ll tell you this: He was heads above all the rest of them,” said longtime friend Henrietta McIntyre, who served as councilwoman during Johnson’s term. “He was a very strong individual, but he was also a very caring individual.”

McIntyre and former Warner Robins purchasing agent Alexandra Talley said they maintained friendships with Johnson since they worked in City Hall together. They said the former mayor was known for being great under pressure, promoting growth of the city and encouraging growth in his employees.
“He expected an awful lot of me, of things I thought I couldn’t manage,” Talley recalled. “And he said, ‘Yes, you can, and yes, you will.’ ”
