Bibb County grand jurors have indicted a 26-year-old Macon man on charges he hijacked a car and shot a former Appling Middle School principal May 9, 2010 at Tattnall Square Park.
Hussain Herman Watkins is charged with hijacking a motor vehicle, kidnapping, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to an indictment filed Tuesday in Bibb County Superior Court.
The charges stem from allegations that Watkins approached former Appling Middle School principal Robert Stevenson in the park. At gunpoint, Watkins told Stevenson to drive and the men traveled a short distance before Watkins instructed Stevenson to stop and get out of the car, said prosecutor Elizabeth Bobbitt.
Stevenson then ran away amidst gunshots and later called police. He was shot in the abdomen, Bobbitt said.
