Macon police are seeking the public’s help in finding a man who tried to rob a bank in downtown Macon.
Police were called to a robbery in progress at the State Bank on Walnut Street about 2:30 p.m. Friday. An unarmed man had walked into the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money.
While the man was inside, a customer approached him and the would-be bandit left, taking the note with him, according to a police news release. He got no money, and no one was injured.
Police said they believe the black man is in his mid-30s, with a dark complexion and possibly facial hair. He’s about 5-foot-9 and weighs from 145 to 165 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white, long-sleeve shirt, buttoned to the top, and light-colored pants. His left hand is discolored or scarred. The white shirt and black fleece jacket with a hood he was wearing were found near the scene.
