A Macon woman was shot early Saturday morning as she drove to pick up her grandchildren from a skating rink, near where males were firing guns into the air, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said.
One of her grandchildren had to tell her that she was bleeding. Sheriff’s investigators believe a bullet fired high into the air returned through the windshield to graze the abdomen of Carol Morris, 64. She picked up the children, started driving east, discovered she was wounded, and pulled the car over to call for help.
In a statement, the sheriff’s office said Morris had been driving to the Olympia Family Fun Center, 5020 Mercer University Drive, when she was wounded. Deputies who were at the scene said the skating rink was closing and patrons were leaving a concert when the males started shooting about 12:25 a.m.
Morris was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition. No one else was injured during the incident.
The sheriff’s office said it is interviewing patrons and gathering evidence. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 746-9441.
