Officials on Tuesday will open the second phase of Macon NOW, a $2.5 million economic development campaign expected to create 4,000 new jobs during the next five years.
The Macon NOW Campaign Pep Rally will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Cox Capitol Theatre. An invitation to the event also promotes a “special announcement regarding the future of economic development in Central Georgia.”
The first phase of Macon NOW generated $900 million in capital investments and 4,400 new jobs, according to the Macon Economic Development Commission. It’s also credited with generating $255 million in new consumer expenditures and a total economic output of $1.6 billion.
The MEDC and the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce say the second phase will focus on four major strategies: economic development, work force development, strengthening Robins Air Force Base and community image.
The majority of the $2.5 million in funding for the second phase -- $1.37 million -- will be earmarked for economic development.
