The Bibb County Board of Education released a statement through spokesman Chris Floore on the resignation of Central head football coach Anthony Hines.
The statement in full:
The District became aware of a serious concern regarding Central High School student athlete safety, and an investigation was immediately started. Coach Anthony Hines was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of that investigation, and Coach Brent Thornton was named Interim Head Coach in the meantime. Coach Hines submitted his letter of resignation to the District Monday. The investigation is still ongoing, so we won't be able to provide details until it is completed. Due to the serious nature of the investigation, the District wants to ensure it is thorough and complete so we can ensure we are looking out for and protecting the safety of our student athletes. The District has been in contact with the Georgia High School Association and the Professional Standards Commission throughout this process.
