A 28-year-old Macon man pleaded guilty Tuesday to murder in connection with the death of a man who was shot while driving through the intersection of Mickey Street and Lindsey Drive in Macon on April 6, 2010.
Michael Todd Rice, of Von Ron Drive, entered his plea in Bibb County Superior Court and was sentenced to life in prison, said prosecutor Elizabeth Bobbitt.
Rice was robbed during the early morning hours of April 6 while at his grandmother’s house with several friends.
By 11:30 a.m., 34-year-old James “Jamie” Olan Abney Jr., of Lindwood Drive, had died after being shot in the head, Bobbitt said.
Never miss a local story.
Angry he was robbed, Rice sought out Abney. At some point, he found Abney and followed him long enough to realize he was headed to his home in the Bloomfield community, Bobbitt said.
At the intersection of Mickey Street and Lindsey Drive, Rice fired one shot at Abney, striking his temple, she said.
Charges against a man traveling with Rice, 32-year-old Stanley Michael Dominy, of Clifton Drive, are pending, Bobbitt said.
