A funeral procession will be held Wednesday to honor U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Michael John Buras, who was killed Sept. 21 after a bomb exploded near his vehicle in Afghanistan.
The funeral for Buras is planned for 11 a.m. at Arbor Baptist Church, in Fitzgerald.
Buras, 23, who was born in Tifton and grew up in Fitzgerald, is a 2005 graduate of Fitzgerald High School.
A procession will leave at 10:30 a.m. from Paulk Funeral Home, located on Main Street in Fitzgerald, pass by Fitzgerald High School and then end at Arbor Baptist Church, on Merrimac Drive.
Following the funeral service, Buras will be buried with full military honors at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville.
The procession will travel along U.S. 280 most of the way to Andersonville. People are encouraged to line U.S. 280/16th Avenue in Cordele from 1:45-2 p.m. to pay respects to Buras.
Buras was assigned to the 99th Civil Engineering ordnance disposal team deployed from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. He was awarded a Purple Heart in 2009 for wounds received on another mission.
