A 77-year-old man was listed in critical condition Thursday at an Augusta burn center after sustaining second- and third-degree burns to his upper body in a Tuesday night fire, according to the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department.
Fire investigator Ben Gleaton said firefighters were called to 4083 Log Cabin Drive about 10:10 p.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, they found fire coming out of a bedroom window.
Bystanders helped a woman escape the burning home, but once outside, the woman realized the man was still inside. Firefighters rescued the man, whose identity has not been released, Gleaton said.
The man was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia and later was airlifted to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, he said.

The woman was not injured. Firefighters contained the fire to the rear bedroom.
Gleaton said the fire department still is investigating the cause of the fire, but there’s no indication of foul play.
