WARNER ROBINS - West Virginia (Barboursville) defeated Virginia (Bridgewater) 3-2 in a Little League Softball Southeastern Region Tournament pool play game on Saturday.
With the win, West Virginia locked up the No. 2 seed in Pool A and will play the winner of Saturday's 7 p.m. North Carolina-Warner Robins game at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Pool A top seed Florida will play the loser of North Carolina-Warner Robins at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
In the bottom of the first, West Virginia's Jenna Marsh scored on Emily Wilmink's groundout for a 1-0 lead. West Virginia added a second run on another ground ball in the bottom of the second for a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, West Virginia added another run for a 3-0 lead when Marsh scored on a passed ball.
In the top of the fifth, Virginia's Bethany Depoy grounded to short. The throw was errant. Natalie Helmick came around to score to make it 3-1.
In the top of the sixth, Olivia Cook reached third on a fly ball over the right fielder's head. Alexa Sheets then doubled to drive in Cook to cut the score to 3-2 with one out. An Allanah Miller groundout moved Sheets to third. But Sheets was tagged out on a ground ball for the third out.
