As temperatures are expected to climb to near 100 degrees Thursday, The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for much of Middle Georgia.
The public is warned about dangerous conditions between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. along and south of a line from Columbus to Macon to Washington where the heat index will approach 108 degrees.
Everyone is urged to drink plenty of liquids, stay in an air-conditioned room and avoid direct sunshine. The elderly, young children and people with heart conditions are most at risk. Please check on elderly neighbors, relatives and friends who may need assistance and extreme heat can be deadly.
