Bibb County deputies discovered a methamphetamine lab in south Bibb County earlier this week when they were responding to another call.
The active meth lab at 2170 St. Clara Court, which deputies found Tuesday night, was the first such find by Bibb County authorities since a July discovery on Crawford Road, sheriff’s Sgt. Sean DeFoe said.
Deputies Thomas Sullivan and Roy Williams were responding to a call about a disturbance or dispute at the property when they smelled a strong odor of ammonia and ether, DeFoe said.
Sheriff’s investigator Paul McDuffy, who entered the house to begin dismantling the lab, had to be decontaminated later by a Macon-Bibb County Fire Department hazardous materials team.
Deputies arrested resident Tanya Sowash, 44, and 40-year-old Michael Shipman of Lizella, both of whom were charged with manufacturing Schedule II drugs.
Both of them were being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center without bond.
Deputies told the Drug Enforcement Administration about the lab and called for| an Atlanta cleanup crew.
Anyone with any more information about the case is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 746-9441.
